There are too many characters in football who are considered superstars. But sometimes time shows that a star is in fact just an overrated player. Does this mean that we are facing bad players and you should never bet on them via 22Bet Bangladesh? Definitely not. But these guys clearly aren’t as tough as they’re made out to be.
Christian Palisic
When the footballer played at Borussia, many called him the new big talent. And, naturally, many top clubs were interested in Palisic’s transfer. Chelsea won, giving £58 million for Christian in 2019. It was a serious advance. But in three years, Palisic has never been able to justify it.
Nicolas Pepe
In the 2019/20 season, Arsenal fans expected Nicolas Pepe to be their new superstar for years to come. At any rate, the Ivorian was strong at Lille, with 22 goals and 11 assists in a season – figures from Football Manager with cheater tactics. Nicolas was paid £72 million for him. So what did he do? He fell out of Arteta’s plans and left on loan to Nice.
Pepe generally didn’t play too badly for Arsenal, but it took Nicolasover a hundred games to reach the statistics of the level of the 2018/19 season for Lille. Clearly, the level is quite different, but a record transfer was certainly expected to have a greater impact on the game. It looks like Pepe just had one super season knocked out of his level.
Jack Grealish
Jack Grealish is a great player, dragging Aston Villa around. He pushes the ball forward beautifully, is classy on his feet and has been on all the lists of football simulation prodigies for years. The latter certainly didn’t influence professional opinion, but it made the public believe that Jack was the new big guy in world soccer.
What do we have now? Jack moved to Man City and became one of the team. Not the coolest, but not the most useless either. Jack plays at a decent level, but doesn’t live up to his reputation or his $100 million price tag.
Paul Pogba
He is one of the most overrated players in history. Paul Pogba will go down in history as the man who ditched Manchester United twice. First, he was let go to Juventus for pennies, and there he suddenly became a midfield leader and one of the most popular players of a generation. When he was brought back, already for a huge 105 million euros, Pogba proved to be a scandalous and ineffective character, after which he left again for Juve. This time for free.
Pogba has not played at a high level for so long that it’s no longer clear why he is still considered a top player. Some incredible inertia. And Paul doesn’t have much time anymore to prove that he’s still good. Juventus is a great place to be, but Pogba was immediately badly injured. There’s a chance we won’t see the Frenchman again as he was in 2015. And then he will one hundred percent be remembered as an overrated character.
Eden Hazard
Eden Hazard’s failures at Real Madrid are followed by everyone. With incredible talent, Eden has been lazy all his career working at 100% and ended up losing his skills by 30.
When Eden Hazard was taken from Lille, he was seen as a future competitor for Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. And Eden became unstably great, showing a magical game, then a magical laziness. And the last few seasons have shown that we expected too much from him.
